Paracetamol Use in Pregnancy – Guidance from the MHRA
The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) has confirmed that paracetamol remains the recommended first-choice pain relief during pregnancy, when taken at the lowest effective dose for the shortest possible time.
Research continues to be reviewed, and current evidence supports the safe use of paracetamol in pregnancy when taken as directed.
If you are pregnant and require pain relief, paracetamol is considered safe and appropriate. Please follow the instructions on the packaging. If pain persists or you have any concerns, speak with your pharmacist or midwife first. A GP can provide further advice if needed.
