Total Triage System Changes
Posted or Updated on 26 Feb 2025
Total Triage System – Extended Hours from 1st March 2025
We are making changes to our Total Triage System to improve access to care while ensuring safe and efficient management of patient requests.
What’s Changing?
From 1st March 2025, we are extending our triage hours to 07:30 AM – 18:30 PM, allowing more time for patients to submit requests.
To ensure safe and effective care, we are also introducing:
✔ A response time of up to 48 working hours – This allows clinicians to carefully review all requests. You may not receive a same-day appointment, but urgent cases will be prioritised.
✔ A daily triage request limit – To prevent Clinician overload, we will manage requests as follows:
Day
|
Maximum Requests
|
Monday
|
120 requests
|
Tuesday
|
120 requests
|
Wednesday
|
100 requests
|
Thursday
|
100 requests
|
Friday
|
100 requests
|
That means we are actually offering more triage slots than we receive on average, increasing availability for patients.
Why Are We Making These Changes?
Since launching our Total Triage System on 14 May 2024, we have been reviewing how many requests we receive each day. Our data shows we process an average of 500 triage requests per week:
- Monday: 120 requests
- Tuesday: 100 requests
- Wednesday: 80 requests
- Thursday: 80 requests
- Friday: 80 requests
With the new system, we are offering up to 520 triage slots per week, helping us provide better access to care while ensuring Clinician capacity is managed safely.
What This Means for You
🔹 You will have a longer window to submit a triage request.
🔹 Non-urgent requests may take longer for a response.
🔹 Once we reach the daily triage limit, the system will close for that day.
🔹 If your condition is urgent, please contact 999 or NHS 111 for immediate assistance.
We appreciate your understanding and support as we make these improvements.
